A sticking plaster on a broken leg

A lot of what I’m doing right now is addressing skills gaps between businesses and graduates. Perversely it involves no interaction with universities, though I’d like it to. The organisation I work for is understandably hesitant because of the nightmarish structures and lines of communication, inter-departmental hatred, and inter-university hatred.

Which is all very British. But we’re missing a trick – all I need is access to students keen to be hookeds up with companies and guided on what skills they should and can develop. So a campus-to-campus roadshow or event might be in order. Degree outcomes and employability are big issues for the NUS, for example – or am I naively swapping a host of infexible institutions for one big fat one?
